Volunteers clean up litter during National Cleanup Action
Once again this year, residents of the Krimpenerwaard municipality actively participated in the National Cleanup Action. This time, the focus was on cleaning up litter in the shopping areas of Bergambacht and Schoonhoven.
Bergambacht
On March 12, around fifty pupils from De Ark primary school and ten adults gathered in Bergambacht in the morning to work together. Not only was the shopping area cleaned, but surrounding neighbourhoods as well. Although it initially appeared tidy, a significant amount of litter was found. Most notably, there were many cigarette butts, as well as plastic, glass, PET bottles, and cans in bushes and flower beds. Notable finds included wheel caps and even a bicycle battery.
Schoonhoven
In the afternoon, it was Schoonhoven’s turn. Enthusiastic participants from Gemiva, several municipal employees, a local entrepreneur, and engaged residents worked together to clear the shopping area and its surroundings of litter. Here too, cigarette butts were prominent, as well as litter floating in the canal water.
Other communities
On March 21, cleanup actions were also organised in other communities. In Ammerstol, volunteers from Ammerstol Helpt went out to collect litter. In Lekkerkerk, members of the Protestant community also contributed to making their surroundings cleaner. These communities demonstrate each year how committed their residents are to a clean living environment.
