New observation tower one step closer
The Municipality of Maashorst is taking further steps for the new observation tower south of Zevenhuizerweg in the De Maashorst nature area. Direct stakeholders have been informed. The selection of a contractor and the permit procedure have begun.
The plan also aligns with the principles outlined in the 2050 area vision for the nature area. This ensures the observation tower is situated within the natural buffer zone, is easily accessible, and preserves the tranquility of the area.
What we will do
Building permit
The tower does not fit within the current environmental plan. Therefore, we will amend the environmental plan. We have informed and invited direct stakeholders to an environmental dialogue on March 24. We will apply for the building permit.
Contractor and design
We will draft a set of requirements for the tower (technical, sustainable, accessible). Contractors or agencies will submit designs. The contractor with the best design will further develop and build it. We will involve the sounding board group in the selection process.
Adjusting the environment and paths
The original grazing area near Zevenhuizerweg will be slightly reduced. The tower will be located at the edge of this area. We will also adjust walking and cycling paths to ensure easy access to the observation tower:
- A cycling connection between Zeeland and Uden will remain. However, we will relocate it and implement it with semi-paved surfaces.
- The informal walking path from Zeeland will be preserved.
Enjoying the view in 2027
Visitors are expected to enjoy a beautiful view of the characteristic landscape and important natural processes in the area by 2027. The tower will feature elements that explain how the nature area is developing. People with disabilities will also be able to visit part of the tower.
Plan stems from area vision
The desire for the tower is included in the Area Vision for De Maashorst. The chosen location aligns with the principles of this vision and is suitable for experiencing the landscape without disturbing nature.
