New Cultural Vision for Maassluis: Have your say on what matters for our city
The Municipality of Maassluis is developing a new Cultural Vision in 2026. We are doing this together with residents, creators, associations and organisations, because culture belongs to all of us. The new vision outlines how culture can develop in the coming years and what choices we, as a municipality, will make to strengthen art, creativity, encounters and participation.
What is the Cultural Vision?
The Cultural Vision sets out how we, as a municipality, want to invest in art, culture and creativity. It covers the entire cultural landscape: from creators, associations and volunteers to venues, museums and cultural activities in the neighbourhoods. Culture brings people together, creates enjoyment and inspiration, strengthens livability and contributes to well-being and social cohesion. With the Cultural Vision, we show how we want to harness this power of culture and how we want to make culture in Maassluis even more visible, accessible and attractive.
Why a new vision?
The current Cultural Vision from 2015 no longer matches how Maassluis has developed. Since the evaluation of the Cultural Vision in 2020, much has changed: new cultural venues such as Loods M and Het Bruisend Huis have emerged, residents have different wishes and creators and associations are asking for new forms of support. In addition, themes such as inclusion, well-being, sustainability and neighbourhood development are playing an increasingly important role. That is why we are developing a new, forward-looking vision that fits the city of today and tomorrow. This vision will also include an implementation agenda, so that plans are not just on paper but will actually be carried out.
How will we create the new Cultural Vision?
We start with a broad study of what culture looks like in Maassluis today. We look at the current offerings, the places where activities take place and the experiences of creators, associations and volunteers. But above all, we want to know what Maassluizers themselves find important. That is why we are asking residents what they value about culture in the city, what they miss, where they see opportunities and how they think culture can contribute to the livability of their neighbourhood and their daily lives. These insights will form the basis for further development of the new Cultural Vision. We will gather this information through surveys, street interviews and discussions with cultural, sports, well-being and education organisations. The wishes, ideas and concerns shared by residents will be incorporated as the basis for the draft vision. We will then translate this direction into an implementation agenda with concrete actions, resources and responsibilities.

What do we want to achieve?
With the new Cultural Vision, we aim for a strong, accessible and future-proof cultural sector. We want culture to be visible in all neighbourhoods and to contribute to the well-being and mental health of residents, to livability and social cohesion, to inclusion and equal opportunities, and to creativity and talent development. We also want to create space for new initiatives and experimentation. The implementation agenda will translate these ambitions into concrete projects and clear agreements, so that plans are not just on paper but will actually be carried out.
When will the vision be ready?
The Cultural Vision will be developed step by step over the coming period, together with the city. The Cultural Vision and the implementation agenda are expected to be submitted to the municipal council in the fourth quarter of 2026. After the decision-making process, we will share the new vision on this website.
