Alderman Jan Schipper gives the starting signal for the renovation of Esweg in Beilen
March 4, 2026 - Alderman Jan Schipper today (March 4) officially gave the starting signal for the renovation of Esweg, Linthorst Homanweg, and Asserweg. With the unveiling of a construction board and the symbolic 'flipping' of the first tile at Esweg, the works can officially begin. The municipality and contractor Avitec are thus taking the step towards a safer and future-proof route through Beilen.
“We have prepared this project together with the neighborhood,” according to alderman Jan Schipper. “I am pleased that the shovel is now really going into the ground. We are not only renewing the road surface but also thoroughly tackling the sewer system. This way, we are preparing the street for the future and ensuring a more pleasant living environment.
Construction starts on April 13
While the preparatory works, such as the removal of trees, have been carried out over the past week, the first real shovel will go into the ground for the construction works on Monday, April 13, 2026. From that date, Esweg will be closed to through traffic. However, residences and businesses on Esweg will remain accessible by car during the works.
What will happen?
The works, which will be carried out by contractor Avitec from Nieuw-Buinen, include, among other things, the replacement of the existing sewer by a separate system for rainwater and wastewater. After the sewer work, utility companies will start working on cables and pipes. As the final step, the road, sidewalk, and bike path will be completely redesigned with new paving.
Planning and phasing
- Phase 1 (April through June 2026): Start of the sewer works.
- Phase 2 (June through September 2026): Continuation of sewer work.
- Phase 3 (August through December 2026): Completion of sewer work and start of the redesign for this part.
- Follow-up (2027): In the new year, the sewer work on Asserweg will start, and the final redesign of the other phases will take place.
After the sewer work, temporary asphalt will be applied each time so that the road is quickly safe to use for residents before the final paving is laid.
