Start construction of main cycling route Muntendam – Veendam
Work has begun on upgrading the cycling route between Muntendam and Veendam. The route runs via the Bovenweg, the Veenpad, the Westerbrink and the Buitenwoellaan and will provide a better and safer cycling connection between Muntendam and Veendam.
Phases
The work is being carried out in phases to minimise disruption for local residents and road users. The first phase has started on the Bovenweg in Muntendam. This section will be designated as a cycle street, where cars are guests. The existing cycle path will be widened to 3.5 metres up to the Westerbrink. Junctions will be modified and cyclists will be given priority almost everywhere.
Closures
During the work, we will sometimes have to close roads. For example, the Bovenweg will be closed from Monday 30 March to Friday 19 June 2026. This is from Hut Tuin en Dier to the Reiger exit. We will inform local residents and other stakeholders in good time. We share all information about the planning, work and changes via the BouwApp ‘Nieuws van de Bouw’.
