Municipality expands charging network with 16 data-driven charging points
The electricity grid in the province of Utrecht is reaching its limits, meaning new connections for charging points may no longer be possible after July 1 of this year. The municipality is therefore installing 16 data-driven charging points. This will allow us to continue supporting residents with electric and hybrid cars, both now and in the future.
Due to the increasing demand for electricity, the power grid is becoming overloaded. This is known as grid congestion. Grid operators expect that new connections for charging points, among other things, will no longer be possible from July 1. Residents can still request a charging point now, but the options may change afterward.
The municipality is working on a comprehensive charging network and designating additional parking spaces for charging electric cars. This is particularly happening in areas where demand is high or where there is currently no charging point nearby. To prepare for the future, we will install a total of 16 data-driven charging points in 2026 and 2027: 10 in Montfoort and 6 in Linschoten.
When determining locations, we consider cables and pipelines, accessibility, and the surrounding environment. This ensures that the charging network continues to meet the needs of our residents.
