Safer Ter Aar: rerouting heavy traffic
In Ter Aar, we are taking measures to keep our roads safe and livable. We will reroute as much freight and agricultural traffic as possible around the village center. This will create more space for cyclists, pedestrians, and recreational users. The measures will come into effect on 7 April.
Our roads are becoming increasingly busy. More and more (cut-through) traffic is using these roads without having a destination in our municipality or Ter Aar. People are increasingly using these roads to avoid the motorway. Combined with agricultural traffic, this regularly leads to unsafe situations, particularly for cyclists and pedestrians.
What will change
On several roads in and around Ter Aar, we will reroute large and heavy traffic to other, more suitable routes where the carriageway will no longer be shared between motorized traffic and (moped) cyclists. The following roads in Ter Aar will soon be off-limits to (through) freight and/or agricultural traffic:
- Kerkweg between Oostkanaalweg and P. van Schravendijkstraat.
- Oostkanaalweg from Kerkweg to Schilkerweg.
- Westkanaalweg from Aardamseweg to Hertog van Beijerenstraat.
- Oude Kerkpad and Korteraarseweg between Kerkweg and Oostkanaalweg.
Why we are doing this
By rerouting heavy traffic around the village center, we are making it safer for cyclists and pedestrians and creating a more pleasant living and recreational environment. Good routes will remain available for freight and agricultural traffic. These roads offer more space and are safer for this type of traffic. With this measure, we are making Ter Aar step by step safer and more enjoyable for everyone.
