New suppliers Medipoint and Meyra for Wmo assistive devices
From June 1, 2026, residents in the Nijmegen region can obtain their Wmo assistive devices, such as wheelchairs or mobility scooters, from two new suppliers. Medipoint and Meyra will provide and maintain these assistive devices. They have been awarded the contract following a tender process. This applies to people living in Berg en Dal, Beuningen, Druten, Heumen, Mook en Middelaar, Nijmegen, or Wijchen.
Until June 1, 2026, Welzorg will still be supplying the assistive devices. After that date, Welzorg will only be responsible for the maintenance of assistive devices it has previously supplied.
Wmo assistive devices
The Wmo (Social Support Act) is a law that ensures municipalities provide assistance to those in need. This includes care and support in daily life. The municipality provides various assistive devices for residents under the Wmo, for example:
- Transportation devices such as mobility scooters and adapted bicycles
- Wheelchairs, both standard and electric
- Household assistive devices, such as shower chairs with wheels and patient lifts
Maintenance and supply of assistive devices
Currently, Welzorg supplies all Wmo assistive devices in the Rijk van Nijmegen region. Residents who currently use an assistive device through Welzorg can continue to do so. Welzorg will also remain responsible for the maintenance, repairs, and service of existing assistive devices after June 1, 2026. This service will continue until at least May 31, 2029.
Assistive devices will gradually transition from Welzorg to Medipoint or Meyra, for example when a device is replaced or modified, or when a resident chooses to switch. From June 1, 2026, Medipoint or Meyra will supply new assistive devices.
Tender process
The region had to retender the supply and maintenance of Wmo assistive devices because the current contract expires on May 31, 2026. Quality of service to residents was the primary consideration in the selection process. Ultimately, a contract was awarded to Medipoint and Meyra, who will supply the Wmo assistive devices in the region.
Grete Visser (Alderman for Care): It is important that residents have access to assistive devices they are satisfied with. That is why I am pleased that we can offer choice and the option to retain existing assistive devices. This ensures that everyone receives the support that suits them.
Residents do not need to take any action at this time. They will receive a letter with further information. More details are available at nijmegen.nl/wmo.
