Residents engage in financial discussions during Money Week
Did you also see our cargo bike with the yellow posters ‘Don’t leave money behind’ while shopping? It’s Money Week. That’s why we, together with WIJzer Oirschot, actively engaged in conversations on the streets about (financial) regulations and work opportunities. We were also present at the weekly markets in Middelbeers and Oirschot.
With a full shopping basket, coffee, tea, and some treats, we easily struck up conversations with passersby about shopping and making ends meet. Many people notice that groceries are getting more expensive. Financial worries or making ends meet on a low income can be challenging. We explained what free assistance is available. “We noticed that many people don’t know what support is available,” says a WIJzer Oirschot employee. “By talking to people on the street, we could share this information and answer their questions directly.”
Every day, we gave away the contents of the shopping basket to the person who guessed the closest to the total cost. The guesses ranged from €11 to €37, but the receipt showed an amount around twenty euros (ranging from €19.13 to €20.67).
