Schools in Noord-Veluwe compete to reduce textile waste
From March 23 to April 16, 2026, the Textiel Race Noord-Veluwe will take place. Nine schools will learn all about the importance of reusing, repairing, and recycling textiles. In our municipality, students from CBS De Spoorzoeker will collect as much clothing and old textiles as possible, which will be reused or recycled. The school that collects the most textiles will also win a school trip to NEMO in Amsterdam!
This way, the Textiel Race makes reusing, repairing, and collecting textiles fun, educational, and easy.
Donating textiles helps
Separating and properly donating textiles makes an immediate difference for the environment. It ensures fewer people have to work in poor conditions, more clothing and fabrics are reused, and less is wasted. Yet, every year, about ten kilograms of textiles per Dutch person still end up in the residual waste container, where they are incinerated. Additionally, much clothing remains unused in closets.
Councillor Beerd Flier: “Old clothing doesn’t have to be the end—often, it still has a second life, or a small repair is all it needs. It’s great to see De Spoorzoeker participating in the Textiel Race again. This way, our children learn playfully how valuable reuse and recycling are. I wish all participants lots of fun and success!”
