Discover foster care at the information evening in Oosterwolde
Foster Care Friesland is hosting an information evening in Oosterwolde on Wednesday, April 22, from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM. During the event, you can learn what it means to be a foster parent, the different forms of foster care, and how to become one. An experienced foster parent will share her experiences.
Foster parents needed
Foster parents open their homes to children, integrating them partially or fully into family life. The Netherlands faces a shortage of foster parents, which means some children may spend too long in environments where they cannot thrive. More foster parents are urgently needed, including in Friesland.
“It brings something to all of us, and I find that wonderful.”
Foster care comes in various forms. Cathy, for example, provides part-time foster care for six-year-old Stella. Cathy says, “When I saw the call for a suitable foster care placement for Stella, it kept lingering in my mind.” The first meeting between Cathy and Stella went well. “Stella is a lovely and charming girl. She immediately wanted to come home with me at our first meeting,” Cathy recalls. “Of course, we didn’t do that, but it gave me a good feeling that things would work out.” Stella’s mother uses the weekends to recharge. Cathy sees how this balance benefits the family, and she herself enjoys Stella’s company. “It brings something to all of us, and I find that wonderful.”
