How many votes does a party need to win a seat?
The number of votes required to win one seat is known as the electoral quota. This is calculated by dividing the total number of valid votes cast for candidates by the total number of seats in the Ooststellingwerf municipal council, which is 21.
Of the 21,133 eligible voters, 11,510 cast their votes. The turnout was therefore 54.46%. Of the 11,510 votes cast, 11,426 were valid votes cast for a candidate.
The electoral quota is therefore 11,426 / 21 = 544 2/21.
