New name for ‘De Nieuwe Kern’: over 150 submissions already
On Wednesday, 25 March, we launched the campaign to find a new name for ‘De Nieuwe Kern’. Under the motto: ‘The future of this place begins with a name. Can you think of one?’ More than 150 residents have already responded to this call, submitting one or more suggestions, with new entries arriving every day.
A new name for a new residential area
In the area between Duivendrecht station, the Johan Cruijff ArenA and the A2, which has long been known by the working name ‘De Nieuwe Kern’, a completely new residential area is set to emerge in the municipality of Ouder-Amstel over the coming years. It will feature 6,200 homes, a central city park, hospitality venues, amenities, offices and an expansion of the De Toekomst sports complex.
In this campaign, we are asking residents (and other stakeholders) to come up with a new name for this residential area. A proper name. A name that reflects the area, its character, its green spaces and urban environment, its history and its future. An appealing name for the thousands of people who will live there.
First think, then vote
Until Sunday, 12 April, anyone can submit a name. Later this spring (late May), the best submitted names will be put to a vote. The name with the most votes will become the official name for the area. The aim is for the new name to be in use before the summer. We hope it will be a wonderful name for this new residential area in Ouder-Amstel!
Have you already submitted a name?
You can find all the information about the campaign at denieuwekern.nl/naam. There, you’ll also find a video we commissioned to inspire people. Have you already submitted a name? Do so before 12 April. Perhaps you’ll be the one to come up with the new name!
