VANG target achieved
What is particularly worth mentioning is that Papendrecht has achieved the VANG target. (VANG stands for the waste collection method Van Afval naar Grondstof, or 'From Waste to Raw Material'). The target is: less than 100 kilograms of residual waste per resident per year and 75% waste separation. With 90 kilograms of residual waste (67 kilograms of fine waste and 23 kilograms of bulky waste) and 80% waste separation, Papendrecht has achieved this target for the first time!
Below, you can see the developments per waste stream over the past five years. The reductions in residual waste, organic waste (GFT), and plastic waste clearly show that the new waste separation method was introduced in 2024.
Deputy Mayor Arjan Kosten is extremely pleased with the figures: “This outstanding result shows that the efforts of both residents and the municipality have had the desired effect. In my view, this is a fine and important step in the right direction towards a circular and sustainable future for the next generation!”
