Construction begins on new municipal warehouse
“We’re a little bit proud of this.” With those words, Mayor Jaap Kuin officially launched the construction of the new municipal warehouse on Industrieweg-West in Oude Pekela on Tuesday morning.
Kuin then climbed into an excavator to place one of the first concrete panels for the warehouse wall.
The new warehouse will replace the old one at the municipal yard on Wedderweg in Oude Pekela, which is set to be demolished. Additionally, the municipal yard on Industrieweg-West is suffering from a lack of space, which is why the new warehouse is being built.
The contractors are Hallenbouw Mulder from Ter Apel and Kuiper Grondverzet en Zeeftechniek from Nieuwe Pekela. The warehouse will measure 30 by 15 meters and is expected to be completed before the summer construction break.
“Hats off to the design by our employees. Because it won’t be luxurious, but it will be ‘Just Gold,’” said Mayor Kuin.
