Completion of private-sector homes on Boeierstraat one step closer
On Monday, March 16, Alderman Pascal Verkroost and representatives of Van Wijnen and Mecanoo signed an option agreement for the development of 109 private-sector homes on Boeierstraat in Wheermolen-Oost.
This gives Van Wijnen and Mecanoo the opportunity to further develop the construction plan and purchase the land.
Plans for Boeierstraat
In the Boeierstraat area, 109 private-sector homes will be built. The plan consists of 90 apartments on the side of the Boeierflat and 19 single-family homes behind the properties on Henri Dunantstraat. With this new construction, the municipality aims to increase the supply of private-sector housing and further strengthen the neighborhood.
‘With this agreement, we are taking an important step for this part of Wheermolen-Oost, and at the same time for the much-needed expansion of our housing stock in the municipality. The new homes contribute to a future-proof and attractive neighborhood. I am pleased that Van Wijnen can now get to work on developing a concrete plan,’ said Alderman Verkroost.
Hometown: a new living environment
Under the name Hometown, Van Wijnen is developing and building a new living environment in close collaboration with the neighborhood and the municipality, tailored to the wishes and needs of Purmerend. The plan includes a mix of apartments and Fijn Wonen single-family homes, carefully integrated into a green, small-scale, and connected neighborhood. Mecanoo is responsible for the design. The project will be carried out by Van Wijnen Heerhugowaard.
Thomas van Houwelingen, Director of Van Wijnen Project Development North: ‘We aim for a future-proof neighborhood where sustainability, quality, and a pleasant living environment are central. Together, we are working on a neighborhood that is ready for the future and fits within the ambitions for Wheermolen-Oost. Hometown will become a vibrant part of the city where social interaction comes naturally, and residents can feel at home for years to come.’
Healthy, mixed, and even more cozy
The housing development on Boeierstraat is part of a larger program in Wheermolen-Oost. The Municipality of Purmerend and housing corporation Intermaris are working with residents to create a healthy, mixed, and cozy neighborhood. In the coming years, homes throughout the neighborhood will be renovated, new homes built, and the public space renewed.
Preparations for the demolition of 60 single-family homes in the Boeierstraat area began at the end of 2025. In addition to the 109 private-sector homes, 171 social and mid-rent homes will also be built in this area on behalf of Intermaris. The ground floors will feature space for social interaction, community facilities, and care functions.
What’s next?
Van Wijnen will further develop the plan. The municipality’s quality team will then assess the preliminary and final designs. Once the design is approved, preparations for construction can begin. Residents and stakeholders will be regularly informed about the plans throughout the process. Construction is expected to start at the end of 2027.
