Groothuis Bouwgroep to build new municipal yard and recycling centre
On Wednesday 1 April, the contract for the construction of the new municipal yard and recycling centre was definitively awarded to Groothuis Bouwgroep. This marks the official start of the next phase in the preparatory work for the construction.
Groothuis Bouwgroep scored highest on quality and offered the lowest price. A long-held wish for a new location
The municipal yard and recycling centre in Purmerend are moving from the De Koog industrial estate to Visserijweg in Baanstee Noord. The move is necessary to accommodate the city’s growth and the increasing demand for services. The new location will offer modern facilities, more space and better opportunities for sustainable operations and waste processing. Visitors to the recycling centre will be able to drive through more easily. The new municipal yard will be used by around 250 employees of the municipal outdoor services, such as those responsible for green maintenance or winter road maintenance. Alderman Coen Lageveen: ‘This step fulfils a long-held wish: a modern municipal yard and recycling centre that meets the current requirements, wishes and sustainability ambitions of the municipality.’
Sustainable design
In constructing the new facilities, the municipality has consciously chosen sustainable solutions. The main building will be designed to be extra energy-efficient and environmentally friendly. There will also be a canopy with solar panels above the recycling centre.
Planning
Preparatory work on the site is already in full swing. The buildings are expected to be put into use in the second quarter of 2028.
