Municipalities Organize Textile Race in the Bevelanden and Tholen
The municipalities of Reimerswaal, Borsele, Goes, Kapelle, Tholen, and Noord-Beveland are organizing the Textile Race in collaboration with ZRD and Curitas. This educational project, where schools tackle textile waste, combines awareness of circularity with an action period. In this way, children and their environment learn about reusing, repairing, and collecting used and broken textiles. The approach of the Textile Race is to make reusing, repairing, and recycling textile waste fun, educational, and easy!
The Textile Race
Eleven primary schools from Bevelanden and Tholen will, for four weeks, take on the challenge of used and broken textiles. That's what the Textile Race is all about. During the race, children learn in an educational and interactive way about topics such as consumption, the impact of textile production on people and the environment, repair, reuse, and recycling. After a guest lecture by driven experts, the students are ready to contribute to the circular economy. They do this by reusing, repairing, or collecting as much used and broken textile as possible for recycling in the following weeks. Neighbors can also help the children! Neighbors can offer their textiles at www.textielrace.nl. Students will then pick up the textiles at home.
A better world starts in your wardrobe
Reusing, repairing, and recycling textiles can be improved significantly! Every year, ten kilos of textiles per Dutch person end up in the residual waste container and are incinerated. Or textiles remain in our closets for years without being used. What a waste! Because our textiles can often still be reused or repaired very well. Textiles that are collected in collection containers are also often contaminated because people throw dirty and wet textiles into the container. Therefore, the Textile Race creates awareness among children and their environment about the importance of reusing, repairing, and recycling textiles!
Help the schools and the environment in March
The Textile Race in Bevelanden and Tholen will take place from March 9 to April 2. The race is an initiative of OLAZ, a collaboration of Zeeland municipalities in the field of waste processing, in collaboration with ZRD. They ensure that the collected textiles end up with renowned recyclers. This way, all textiles end up in the right place and can be reused or recycled.
