Almost 1 in 5 farmers and growers is approached by criminals to rent a barn, greenhouse, or shed. They do this by, for example, putting notes in the mailbox or visiting the property. It is often difficult to say no when someone is on your property. Therefore, there is a need for more support, something tangible that shows that criminals are not welcome. Because how do you say no when they suddenly appear on your property?
In rural areas, mailboxes are often located by the road, at the beginning of a driveway. This is a great place to send a first signal using a special No-No sticker (see example). It also helps to raise awareness in rural areas that (drug) crime is not welcome there.
Mayor Annemieke van de Ven launched the sticker campaign on Wednesday, March 11, together with ZLTO (the association for farmers and growers) and the Platform Veilig Ondernemen Brabant-Zeeland. They did this by handing out a sticker to one of the agricultural entrepreneurs in the rural area. The stickers are part of the safety scans and resilience training that are part of a broader approach in Brabant and Zeeland.
