Grand opening of new library branch on Donderberg at the end of May
This week, Bibliorura received the keys to the building for the new library on Donderberg. Bibliorura can now begin setting up the space. The new library will open on Friday, May 29. The branch will play a central role in the neighborhood. The location is next to the sports hall and diagonally opposite the Donderberg shopping center.
In the spring of 2023, the national regulation for local library facilities was launched. The goal: to make public libraries in the Netherlands future-proof in preparation for an amendment to the Public Library Facilities System Act (Wsob) in 2026. Thanks to this one-time national contribution and the additional funding from the municipality of Roermond, Bibliorura can open a new library branch on Donderberg.
An extra living room for the neighborhood
Nowadays, the library is increasingly becoming a third place: a spot to meet, develop, discover, relax, and engage. With this new branch, Bibliorura will soon be able to offer these functions at two locations. The new library will play a central role in the neighborhood. The location is next to the sports hall and diagonally opposite the Donderberg shopping center, with good accessibility and ample parking right at the door.
Proud
Councilor Felix van Ballegooij (Education, Sports, and Neighborhoods): “This library will be the pride of Donderberg. There is a huge need for a library in the neighborhood. Together with all residents and organizations in the area, we are going to create something truly beautiful here. The library will always have something going on, whether you want to organize an activity with others, study as a student, or attend a storytime session with your children. We will make all of this possible for the residents.”
Jeanine Deckers, Director/Board Member of Bibliorura: “We understand that many people, just like us, are really looking forward to our new library on Donderberg. It’s going to be truly wonderful. We ask our visitors to be patient for just a little longer. It will absolutely be worth the wait.”
Grand opening
The official opening will take place on Friday, May 29. Throughout the following week, special activities will be organized for both children and adults.
