New evening closures on Meent and Noordereiland
The Municipality of Rotterdam is taking strict measures against antisocial traffic behaviour. As a result, streets on the Noordereiland and the Meent will be closed to cars and motorcycles in the evenings and at night.
The closures will apply on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. The municipality aims to put an end to the noise and dangerous situations caused by the so-called ‘Kadekapers’ on the Noordereiland and the show-off traffic on the Meent.
Residents of the Noordereiland and the Meent have been complaining about the nuisance for some time. Speeding drivers and roaring motorcycles are causing a lot of noise and unsafe situations. To restore peace in the neighbourhoods, new closures will come into effect this month.
What will change on the Noordereiland?
From Thursday 26 March, various streets on the Noordereiland will be closed in the evenings and at night.
- When: Every Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
- Times: From 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM
Until when: These rules will apply until the new speed bumps are completed. The municipality expects the bumps to be ready by the summer.
New times for the Meent
The Meent will also have stricter rules. Since Thursday 19 March 2026, the street will be closed more often.
Various parts of the Meent and the Meentbrug will be off-limits to cars and motorcycles. Some streets will also be temporarily one-way, such as the Haagseveer and the Lombardkade.
- Thursday, Saturday and Sunday: Closed from 8:00 PM.
- Friday: Closed from 10:00 PM.
- The closure will last until 5:00 AM each time
Who can still drive through?
The closures are only intended for people who do not need to be there. The following groups are always allowed through:
- Residents and local entrepreneurs.
- Cyclists, pedestrians and emergency services (such as ambulances and fire engines).
- Delivery drivers, taxis and people with a disabled parking permit.
Help and report nuisance
The Municipality of Rotterdam uses reports from residents to assess whether the measures are working. Do you still see antisocial traffic behaviour? Then report it via the MeldR app. Select ‘Vehicles’ and then ‘Nuisance from traffic behaviour’ in the app.
