Progress in the renewal of bring locations in Súdwest-Fryslân
We are continuing to implement the Implementation Programme for bring locations in Súdwest-Fryslân, adopted in September 2024. The aim of this programme is to create three full-fledged, future-proof bring locations within the municipality. These will be located in Sneek, Koudum and a new site in the north-western part of the municipality.
Renewal of Koudum bring location in 2026
The bring location in Koudum will be fully renewed. Construction work is scheduled for the second to fourth quarters of 2026. During the construction period, the bring location will also be closed for a time. During this period, residents of the municipality of Súdwest-Fryslân can visit the waste processing site in Harich (De Fryske Marren municipality) on Mondays and Fridays. Bring location and expansion of business parks in Bolsward
As indicated in the implementation programme, the municipality is looking for a suitable site for a medium-sized bring location with expansion options in the north-western part of the municipality. A maximum travel time of 15 minutes is the starting point. Research shows that a new bring location in Bolsward is the most logical option. Alderman Bauke Dam: “Currently, there are no plots available in Bolsward for the realisation of a bring location. That is why we are looking at whether it is possible to link the development to the future expansion of business parks in Bolsward. The council has decided to make funding available to explore the feasibility of one or more sites. The planning for this is still uncertain, which means that the previously stated ambition to realise the new bring location in 2028 may come under pressure. We will remain alert to any opportunities that arise. If a suitable site becomes available in the meantime, we will immediately investigate this possibility.”
Bring location Heeg: preparations for closure
When the implementation programme was adopted, the council decided to close the bring location in Heeg on 1 January 2027. The site is already operating on a limited basis and cannot process all waste streams. Since the municipality is opting for a network of three future-proof bring locations and the travel time from Heeg to Sneek is acceptable, the bring location in Heeg will close in 2027.
Improving waste separation
Michel Rietman: “We are increasingly careful with our raw materials, but it can be done better. As a municipality, we want to encourage better waste separation, dismantling of products and residents choosing repair over disposal. To achieve this, collaboration with partners such as charity shops, entrepreneurs, social employment agencies and educational institutions is essential. With the renewal of our bring locations, we are taking a major step towards a future-proof and circular network. We hope that residents understand that we want to do this well at a few central locations and that residents in Bolsward will be patient for a while and visit one of the other locations in the meantime. Of course, we will keep our residents informed about progress.”
