North Holland prepares for offshore wind energy connections by 2026
Residents of North Holland may soon see new electricity cables and infrastructure from offshore wind farms. The government is finalizing plans to bring sustainable energy ashore, impacting local communities and the environment. Have your say before the end of 2026.

Wind energy from the sea to North Holland
Electricity and hydrogen from new wind farms in the North Sea must be brought ashore via cables and pipelines. The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy is investigating the best locations for this in the Connection Programme for Wind Farm Landings (VAWOZ), as well as the effects on, among other things, the environment and space.
Design programme
In North Holland, locations have been investigated where power from offshore wind farms can come ashore. Locations for hydrogen landings and hydrogen factories, so-called electrolysers, have also been studied. For this purpose, the ministry has worked with the Province of North Holland, municipalities, water boards and other stakeholders. In May, the design programme will be available for inspection and anyone can respond. The programme will be finalised by the end of 2026.
What does VAWOZ mean for Schagen?
In the northern part of North Holland, potential hydrogen landing sites were also investigated. However, plans for hydrogen have been paused for five years. The ministry is now fully focusing on electricity connections. Cables may come ashore south of Julianadorp to connect with a new high-voltage substation near Agriport (A7).
