Final results of the 2026 municipal elections
On Thursday, 26 March 2026, the Central Electoral Board (CSB) confirmed the final results of the 2026 municipal elections during a public session. In total, 61.1% of eligible voters cast their ballots.
Final seat distribution by party
- SGP-ChristianUnion: 3,507 votes (7 seats)
- PRO Sliedrecht: 2,289 votes (4 seats)
- CDA: 1,319 votes (2 seats)
- GroenLinks-PvdA: 804 votes (1 seat)
- Slydregt.NU: 3,491 votes (6 seats)
- VVD: 765 votes (1 seat)
- D66: 359 votes (0 seats)
The municipality of Sliedrecht has a total of 21 seats. During the CSB session, the 21 elected candidates were also confirmed. Of these, 17 were elected based on preferential votes.
Objections
During the public session, attendees could raise objections verbally. Three objections were submitted, none of which targeted a specific decision by the CSB but rather the overall election results. The submitters also requested access to invalid votes and proxy votes and demanded a full recount, including a complete review by the Electoral Council. Following the submission of these objections, the CSB announced a suspension to assess them.
Ruling on objections
The CSB concluded that the objections were insufficiently substantiated. It also determined, in accordance with the Electoral Act (Article P 21), that a new recount of ballots may be ordered if there is a serious suspicion that errors were made at one or more municipal polling stations that could have influenced the seat distribution.
The CSB found no reports from voters regarding suspected errors. Additionally, a full recount took place on 19 March 2026, and the Electoral Council conducted a data analysis, neither of which revealed any irregularities. Finally, no disproportionate number of proxy votes were cast at any polling station.
The CSB’s review confirmed that all checks and investigations were carried out meticulously. Based on these findings, the CSB rejected the objections, and the decisions to confirm the election results remain in place.
Mayor’s response
During the public session, the mayor, as chair of the CSB, responded to a request under the Government Information (Public Access) Act (Woo) regarding invalid votes, which was rejected under the Constitution and Electoral Act:
“Following the public session of the Municipal Electoral Board, a Woo request was submitted regarding the invalid votes. The CSB has noted that this request suggests possible irregularities without concrete evidence. This undermines the integrity and diligence of the work carried out by all 150 volunteers, dozens of staff members, the members of the Municipal Electoral Board, and the Central Electoral Board. I find this unacceptable and harmful. I hope and expect everyone to stop this. Today, Sliedrecht has established a valid and reliable election result.”
Publication of documents
The minutes of the CSB and the final election results are now available for inspection at the reception desk and can be read digitally on the municipality’s website. On Tuesday, 31 March 2026, during the council meeting, the current municipal council will decide on the admission of the new council members. That evening, farewell will also be given to members who will not return to the new council. On Wednesday evening, 1 April 2026, the new council members will be sworn in. Both meetings are open to the public.
