Diamond wedding anniversary for Nico and Dinie Kroeze
Wednesday 18 March was a special day for Nico (85) and Dinie (82) Kroeze from Vroomshoop. The couple celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary and were visited by Mayor Gerrit Jan Gorter to mark this diamond jubilee. He conveyed the sincere congratulations of the municipal council.
Dinie and Nico have lived at the same address on Lindenlaan in Vroomshoop for many years. Their life story, however, began in Drenthe. Dinie was born in Nieuw-Amsterdam and Nico originally comes from Daarlerveen. Their love began in a rather fitting place: a wedding. As the saying goes, from a wedding comes a wedding. This was followed by a courtship of no less than seven years. During that time, Nico regularly covered some 45 kilometres to see his beloved, first by bicycle and later by moped. Love, it seems, knows no headwinds.
After a workplace accident, Nico switched to a job as a caretaker at a training centre. In her younger years, Dinie worked at a clothing factory and later took up cleaning work. Even now, sitting still is not an option for her: she still does alterations on clothes to this day. “What needs to be done today must be finished today,” she always says. Together, Dinie and Nico have two children, four grandchildren and now three great-grandchildren. A fourth great-grandchild is on the way.
Faith plays an important role in the lives of Nico and Dinie. The Vroomshoop couple is closely involved with the Baptist church in their hometown. Dinie, among other things, worked as a nursing assistant and in the church choir, while Nico served as sexton for many years. The couple is deeply grateful that they were able to experience this special milestone together, surrounded by their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
