Decorating Wayside Crosses with Easter Wreaths
This is a message from the Committee for Wayside Crosses in the Municipality of Vaals

Fortunately, the spring sunshine has warmed and brightened our days on many occasions, allowing us to leave the harsh days behind us.
With fresh enthusiasm, we now look forward to the spring season, which has just begun. The sunshine and blue skies encourage us to spend more time outdoors. For wayside crosses, this is the moment they receive extra attention.
The wayside crosses in the Municipality of Vaals are looking their best ahead of Easter. As in previous years, all crosses are adorned with Easter wreaths—colorful wreaths in cheerful yellow and white. It has become a beautiful tradition for all wayside crosses to be decorated with such an Easter wreath.
Easter is an important holiday for Christians, celebrating the resurrection of Jesus. It is also a celebration of spring and new life. It is certainly worth pausing for a moment when passing a wayside cross. With this in mind, we wish everyone a joyful and festive Easter.
Fortunately, every wayside cross in the Municipality of Vaals has been adopted by local residents or neighborhoods. Dozens of people are involved in caring for the crosses. Adopters ensure that the crosses are decorated with an Easter wreath before Easter. They are responsible for the wreaths, storing them in garages, attics, or elsewhere. Each year, after Easter, they remove the wreaths and keep them until the following Easter.
Adopters also maintain the crosses and their surroundings. We provide them with paint so they can touch up the crosses if needed. Additionally, they weed the area and receive flowers and plants in the spring to brighten up the surroundings. This ensures the crosses they care for look their best. Our sincere appreciation goes to all the adopters for their dedication and hard work.
