Enexis strengthens power grid: diversion for cyclists from 23 January
At the end of January, Enexis began strengthening the electricity grid in our region. This involves laying new power cables between Waalre and Valkenswaard and is necessary to ensure that residents of Valkenswaard and Waalre can continue to rely on a stable energy supply in the future. After months of preparatory work, the first drilling under the cycle path De Oude Spoorbaan was completed last week. Cyclists are advised to follow a diversion.
What will happen?
Due to the energy transition, the power grid is under increasing strain. To prevent power outages and failures in the future, the power grid is being strengthened. New, stronger cables are needed to keep electricity supply reliable and safe.
The new power cables between Waalre and Valkenswaard are being laid using a guided drilling technique. This has a length of one kilometre and a depth of nearly 20 metres. On cycle path De Oude Spoorbaan, the drill pipes are laid out and welded together to form one long pipe. Once the drilling is complete, the pipe is inserted into the borehole and the cables are pulled through. Several drillings are required to lay the cables under the four-kilometre-long cycle path. Contractor Hurkmans is carrying out the work.
Impact on cyclists and cycle path De Oude Spoorbaan
The work is taking place on weekdays between 07:00 and 19:00. The cycle path between Valkenswaard and Waalre will be temporarily inaccessible due to the work. The work is expected to be completed by the end of 2026.
- During the work, cyclists must follow a diversion via Eindhovenseweg – Valkenswaardseweg – Lissevenlaan.
- In addition, there is a short diversion for cyclists on Burgemeester Mollaan until the end of April.
- On the weekend of 10/11/12 April and the weekend of 24/25/26 April, Willibrorduslaan will be closed near Het Huis van Waalre.
- Follow the yellow traffic signs for the diversions.
