Sewerage work on and near the cycle path De Voort
From Monday 13 April, sewerage work will take place along and in De Voort. This involves the cycle and pedestrian path between De Weegbree/Kornoeljelaan in the Gegraaf district in Valkenswaard and the Hoefsmidwei in Schepelweijen in Dommelen.
The contractor will be using heavy machinery and it is necessary to close the cycle path to traffic for a period of five weeks, until and including Friday 15 May (end of week 20). We will set up a diversion route, which will be indicated with signs. From Monday 30 March, the advance warning signs about the closure of De Voort cycle path will be installed.
What will we be doing and why?
A major main sewer of the municipality of Valkenswaard runs along cycle path De Voort, carrying the wastewater from the Valkenswaard district to the sewage treatment plant in Eindhoven. The contractor will be ‘relining’ the sewer. This means that the inside of the existing sewer pipes will be lined with a plastic ‘sleeve’. This will extend the lifespan of the pipeline by 50 years.
The contractor will start installing mobile pumps on 13 April. These are needed to pump wastewater because the sewer in De Voort must be closed off to install the plastic sleeve.
The main reason for the relining is tree roots that need to be removed from this sewer, which would otherwise keep coming back in the future without additional measures. Root growth damages the sewer and obstructs the flow of wastewater. In addition, the contractor will also repair several other damages. To prevent new root growth, we will install a plastic ‘lining’ in the sewer.
Information and questions
Residents/businesses directly adjacent to the site will receive a letter from the contractor with information about the work and the schedule.
