Roadworks commence on Rijksweg and Broekeroog on 2 April
From Thursday evening, 2 April, roadworks will begin on the Rijksweg in Velsen-Zuid and the Broekeroog in Velserbroek. This will cause traffic disruption until the end of May 2026. The works are part of major maintenance on several main roads in Velsen.
Rijksweg
Work will take place from 2 to 5 April and from 8 to 12 April. Night-time work will be carried out between 8:00 PM and 5:00 AM, and weekend work will be done during the day. During weekdays, the road will remain accessible, but the speed limit will be adjusted. During the works, the Rijksweg will be fully closed and traffic will be diverted.
Broekeroog
Once the Rijksweg works are completed, work on the Broekeroog will begin on 13 April. This will take place between 7:00 AM and 4:00 PM during the day. The works will be divided into two phases to keep the Hofgeest Buiten district accessible. During this phase, car traffic will be diverted via the N208 and the Velserbroekse Dreef. The cycle path will remain open as much as possible. When the cycle path is being worked on, cyclists will be temporarily diverted via the Hofgeesterweg and the Roosensteinweg.
Safe and clear intersection
Four trees will be felled to create the new Broekeroog–Rijksweg intersection. This intervention will make the intersection clearer and safer for all road users. In the autumn, the municipality will replant new trees along the Rijksweg. The four trees currently being removed at the Broekeroog will be replaced with a full row of trees in a few years’ time. The improvement and safety upgrade of the intersection at Broekeroog and Rijksweg is co-funded by the Province of North Holland.
