Career Evening 'The World of Work' a Great Success
Last night, the municipality of Waalwijk and Dr. Moller College hosted the first edition of the career evening 'The World of Work'. Thirty entrepreneurs visited Dr. Moller College. During the evening, 335 students and parents were introduced to a wide range of professions, skills, and future opportunities in their own region. The municipality of Waalwijk and Dr. Moller College aim to help young people broaden their horizons and retain and develop talent for the region.
Through a career tour featuring entrepreneurs from various sectors, young people and their parents gained a concrete and realistic picture of the labour market in Waalwijk and the surrounding area. In six rounds, entrepreneurs shared insights about their work, the roles within their organisations, the required skills, and developments in their industries. The evening highlighted the versatility and future-oriented nature of the business community in Waalwijk, Sprang-Capelle, and Waspik.
Councillor Frank Spierings, responsible for economic affairs, is proud of the event: “This evening beautifully demonstrated the strength, knowledge, and opportunities present in our municipality. By connecting education and business, we not only help young people discover careers but also build a strong, future-proof labour market in Waalwijk together.”
Education councillor Sjors Slaats agrees: “For young people, it is incredibly important to see and experience the opportunities available, especially close to home. By bringing students and parents into contact with entrepreneurs, we make talent visible and bring the future literally closer. That is of great value for their development and for our municipality.”
Birgitte Jongen, career counsellor at Dr. Moller College, emphasises the importance of collaboration between the school, parents, and entrepreneurs: “As a career counsellor, I believe it is essential for our students to explore labour market opportunities and job roles during their profile and study choice process, along with the skills and talents required. This makes them even more globally aware!”
The positive reactions from students, parents, and participating entrepreneurs confirm that the career evening met a clear need. The event was inspiring, practical, and valuable. The municipality of Waalwijk, Dr. Moller College, and the involved entrepreneurs look back on this first edition with great enthusiasm and see plenty of opportunities for a follow-up.
