Construction begins on new municipal depot in Rumpt
On Wednesday, 11 March, Alderwoman Jacoline Hartman and representatives of the Gelderland provincial authority symbolically laid the first foundation pile for the new joint depot building of the municipality of West Betuwe and the Gelderland provincial authority. The new depot will be located on Boutensteinseweg in Rumpt, on the former provincial worksite.
The current municipal depots in Geldermalsen and Heukelum are outdated and no longer meet modern requirements. The new location will provide the municipality with a single central base in the middle of the entire operational area. Staff from the field service will work from here, among other things, on the maintenance of green spaces, roads, sewer systems, cemeteries and playgrounds. They will also assist with ice and snow clearance.
The municipality of West Betuwe and the Gelderland provincial authority are collaborating on this project. Both parties are responsible for the management of public spaces, and there are many overlapping areas in daily maintenance. From the new shared depot, the municipality and the provincial authority will share various functions and facilities.
Alderwoman Jacoline Hartman: ‘With the new municipal depot, our staff will have a modern, sustainable and central workplace. It’s great that we are realising this together with the provincial authority. This way, we can make better use of space, resources and knowledge.’
Richard van Wilpe, Team Manager Strategy and Business Operations Roads, Gelderland provincial authority:
‘Under the motto “Collaborate where collaboration is possible”, we want to combine our strengths and, among other things, use the available space more efficiently, strengthen each other’s operations and further improve the management of the living environment.’
The new shared depot is expected to be ready for use by early 2027.
