Westerwolde highlights young carers
On 9 March, the campaign "Look around you" will begin. Alderman Wietze Potze will launch the campaign together with young carers. They will unveil a life-size "Kijkdoos" (Look Box) on the square at De Meet in Bellingwolde.
The Kijkdoos is a large cabin that will travel through the municipality over the coming months. Anyone who looks inside will see what life is like for a young person with caring responsibilities. The Kijkdoos reveals what often remains hidden. In this way, the municipality invites residents to look at things differently.
Young people often care without being noticed
There are many young people who provide care at home. They do this on school days, on the sports field and in the street. Often, almost no one notices. The campaign shows how important it is for parents, neighbours, teachers and associations to see and help these young people. Alderman Wietze Potze says about this: “Many young people quietly care for someone. I wish them an environment that sees and supports them. With this campaign, we can do that together. By looking more closely and helping more quickly, we make Westerwolde more carer-friendly.”
Residents welcome
The opening is open to everyone. Residents, professionals, associations and neighbours are all very welcome. The opening will take place at 3:00 PM at De Meet in Bellingwolde.
During the opening, a young carer will also talk about her experiences. She will explain how important it is for the community to recognise and understand young carers.
