Significantly more homes completed in Winterswijk
In Winterswijk, last year saw more than three times as many homes completed compared to the previous year. In 2025, 155 homes were added, while in 2024 there were just 46. This marks a significant step toward increasing the housing supply in the municipality.
“The demand for housing in Winterswijk is high. It’s therefore encouraging to see that more homes are now becoming available. This benefits first-time buyers, families, and those looking to move up the housing ladder,” said Alderman Gosse Visser.
Most new homes through new construction
The majority of the new homes (130) were built as new construction projects. Additional homes were created through the transformation of existing buildings, splitting existing homes, and other smaller developments. Homes were also completed in rural areas and villages, primarily through splitting existing properties and repurposing buildings.
New homes on the way
Next year, around 100 homes are expected to be completed, including projects such as Kastanjelaan and Nieuw Gelle phase 3. Additionally, approximately 37 social housing units will be delivered in 2026, including locations on Burgemeester Bosmastraat, Het Weurden/Huininkmaatstraat, and Kleine Parallelweg phase 1.
Housing construction planning list
To maintain oversight of future housing construction, the Mayor and Aldermen recently approved the 2026 housing construction planning list. This list includes projects totaling 1,362 homes in the coming years. Since not all plans come to fruition, the municipality has opted for this comprehensive list to provide a clear picture of ongoing and upcoming projects in Winterswijk.
Housing Agreement
As part of the regional housing agreement, Winterswijk committed to delivering 900 homes between 2022 and 2030. Based on current plans and completed projects, the municipality is on track to meet this target. The municipal ambition remains to add approximately 1,400 homes by 2035.

Major maintenance on the concrete IJssel Bridge on the A12
Rijkswaterstaat will carry out major maintenance on the concrete IJssel Bridge on the A12 near Arnhem from Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at 9:00 PM to Thursday, May 14, 2026, at 5:00 AM. Significant traffic delays are expected during the work, as fewer lanes will be available. Drivers traveling to or from the Achterhoek via Arnhem should expect additional travel time, which could extend up to 60 minutes.
Additional nighttime work ahead of maintenance
Due to winter conditions, the road surface before and after the bridge has deteriorated more rapidly. To address this, Rijkswaterstaat will carry out additional asphalt repairs prior to the scheduled maintenance. To minimize disruption, these repairs will take place at night, with fewer lanes available and occasional nighttime closures. These works will run from March 23 to April 2, 2026.
Advice for road users
Rijkswaterstaat advises drivers to avoid the A12 as much as possible during the works. Where possible, work from home, travel outside peak hours, or use alternatives such as public transport, carpooling, or cycling. If you must travel, plan your journey carefully and allow for up to 60 minutes of additional travel time.
