On Wednesday 18 March, we will once again vote for the local council. But what exactly are we voting for? What does the local council actually do? And how can you best prepare for election day? You can read all about it in this article.
What is the local council?
Soon you will decide who sits on the local council. That is important, because the council members will govern our municipality for the next four years. They make decisions, for example, on housing construction, traffic, education, sports, healthcare and much more.
In the municipality of Wormerland, the local council consists of 17 members. They are called councillors. The councillors belong to political parties. The more votes a party receives in the local council elections, the more members of that party will join the council. After the councillors have been elected, they themselves choose the aldermen. Together with the mayor, the aldermen implement the council’s plans.
Which party suits you?
You should have received an overview of all the parties and candidates at home. You can use this to see in advance who you would like to vote for. How does voting work on election day?
On 18 March, you can vote between 07:30 and 21:00. This can be done at any polling station in your municipality.
