New experiential map of Roman history
Curious about the Roman history in the region? From now on, you can embark on a journey of discovery through four centuries of Roman history with the help of a hand-drawn experiential map.
From the Roman temple beneath the Grote Kerk in Elst to the Roman tile kiln at De Holdeurn in Berg en Dal, and of course our own 'treasures' in Herwen: the region is full of special places and stories. Did you know, for example, that the largest Roman burial mound in Northwest Europe was excavated in Wijchen?
Stories made tangible
The map neatly brings together the Roman past and makes historical locations and their stories literally visible. Military camps, watchtowers, archaeological sites, museums, hiking and cycling routes, and artworks are all brought together in one richly illustrated experiential map. The more you look, the more details you will discover.
Collaboration of 17 municipalities
With this publication, no fewer than seventeen municipalities, including the municipality of Zevenaar, are joining forces. The experiential map aims to inspire residents and visitors to go on their own discovery tours and experience the Roman past in the landscape, in museums, and at historical locations.

The Experiential Map of Roman History is available free of charge at the Liemers Museum (in the Turmac Cultuurfabriek) and at the Tourist Information Centre on Europakade in Tolkamer.
