Local council elections: seat distribution announced, what happens next?
On Wednesday 18 March, the local council elections took place. The official results have now been announced. We would like to explain the next steps.
Elections
Voters in Zevenaar cast their ballots on 18 March. After the elections, a provisional result is always announced first: this is not yet the final result. On Friday 20 March, candidates for council seats were informed whether they had secured a place on the 29-seat Zevenaar municipal council (or not) based on the provisional results. Preference votes also played a role in this. It was also determined which political parties were eligible for the so-called remainder seats.
Final result
After all checks have been completed, the Central Electoral Board (CSB) of the municipality will declare the final result. This took place today (Thursday 26 March) during a public session in the council chamber. The final result can be viewed on the results page.
Immediately after the Central Electoral Board’s session, elected councillors were given the opportunity to accept or decline their appointment. If a councillor accepts the appointment, they must also submit the required documents (known as 'credentials'), including a declaration regarding public positions and other functions (secondary positions) and an extract from the Personal Records Database.
Council meetings on 31 March and 1 April
On Tuesday 31 March, the municipal council will bid farewell in its old composition. On Wednesday 1 April, the new municipal council will be installed. Both meetings begin at 19:30 and will be held in the Turmac Cultuurfabriek Cultural Centre.
