Next steps
The results are now known. The party with the most votes will explore which other parties it can best cooperate with. Plans can only proceed if more than half of the council agrees with them. Therefore, parties discuss which ideas they share and what they want to work on together.
The parties that wish to cooperate will negotiate their plans for the next four years. They will record all agreements in a coalition agreement. This document outlines what they plan to do for residents, businesses, and organizations in Zutphen and Warnsveld.
The coalition parties will select the aldermen. In Zutphen, there are four aldermen. Together with the mayor, they will implement the plans outlined in the coalition agreement.
The municipal council will begin its work. They will make decisions on topics such as housing construction, poverty reduction, and nature. They will also monitor whether the mayor and aldermen are performing their duties effectively.
On March 30, the outgoing municipal council will say farewell, and the new council members will prepare to begin their duties. On April 1, 2026, the new municipal council will be installed.
