Today, the European Commission approved a positive preliminary assessment of Croatias sixth payment request for €835.6 million under the Recovery and Resilience Facility, the core of NextGenerationEU.
The Commission has preliminarily concluded that Croatia has satisfactorily completed the 15 milestones and 11 targets outlined in the Council Implementing Decision for the sixth grant and second loan installment.
The reforms and investments linked to this payment will bring positive changes for Croatian citizens and businesses, especially in health, anti-corruption efforts, geothermal exploration, hydrogen development, water management, disaster resilience, island energy connectivity, and energy security.
Other key measures associated with this payment request include the digitalization of the healthcare system with advanced surgical equipment and increased patient capacity, alongside new governance legislation for state-owned enterprises. These measures aim to enhance the effectiveness of internal control systems of state-owned companies or establish professional and independent supervisory boards.
Next steps
The Commission has now sent its preliminary assessment of Croatias fulfillment of the milestones and targets necessary for this payment to the Economic and Financial Committee (EFC), which has four weeks to provide its opinion. The payment to Croatia can occur following the EFCs opinion and the Commissions approval of a payment decision.
