Commission announces additional €10 million for Myanmar earthquake relief
Following the devastating earthquake on March 28, 2025, the European Commission is providing an extra €10 million in humanitarian aid. This funding aims to offer emergency shelter, medical care, clean water, and sanitation to affected communities, as well as family tracing and reunification efforts.
This increases the EUs total aid for the Myanmar earthquake response to €13 million, part of a broader €46 million humanitarian package for 2025.
Commissioner Hadja Lahbib stated: The European Union stands in solidarity with the people of Myanmar. Our priority is to ensure quick delivery of humanitarian aid to those in need. We urge all parties to allow safe access for humanitarian organizations.
A team of 12 European experts and two EU Liaison Officers are coordinating efforts on the ground. The EU organized a Humanitarian Air Bridge flight from Copenhagen to Yangon, delivering 80 tonnes of essential supplies, now distributed by UNICEF. Additionally, the EU Emergency Response Coordination Centre supports remote damage assessment with analytical and scientific resources and the Copernicus Emergency Management Service.
Ensuring safe access for humanitarian organizations is crucial. The EU calls for full respect of international humanitarian law and necessary measures to protect civilians and aid workers.
