Thank you, President, honorable members, minister,
On 6th May, the European Commission introduced a roadmap to stop Russian energy imports.
This roadmap sends a clear message: No more Russian energy control over us.
We are ending our dependency on Russian coal, oil, and gas. Coal imports have stopped completely, oil has decreased from 27% to 3%, and gas from 45% to 13%.
Despite this, last year we paid 23 billion euros for Russian energy. The European Parliament has urged us to ban Russian gas completely, and we are responding decisively.
The roadmap outlines a gradual and predictable phase-out plan, ensuring market transparency and stability.
Next month, we will introduce legal measures to ban Russian gas imports under new contracts by year-end and existing contracts by 2027. Member States must submit phase-out plans for gas, nuclear fuel, and oil this year.
We will combat illegal oil entry and restrict Russian nuclear fuel imports, making them economically unattractive.
Nord Streams future use for Russian energy is not feasible. This phase-out is crucial for our energy independence and cleaner production.
Efforts supported by the Connecting Europe Facility and others have enabled key infrastructure projects, helping us reduce Russian dependency.
We are moving towards secure, sustainable, and diverse energy supplies for a competitive and independent Europe.
