Congratulations on your electoral win! We meet here in Rome to celebrate a new era in the Vatican. This also marks a new era between Europe and Australia. During our last meeting at the G20 in Brazil, geopolitical tensions have significantly increased. Fortunately, Australia and Europe are reliable partners who share the same values.

We can offer each other stability, and we are very grateful for that. This is why we see you not only as a trading partner but also as a strategic partner. We would like to broaden this strategic cooperation.

For instance, we have signed security and defense agreements with South Korea and Japan, and soon with the UK. We would be very pleased if we could develop such a security partnership too.
