Roundabout Oelenboom to receive final layout
From Monday, April 20 to Friday, April 24, the road section between the roundabout at the on- and off-ramp of the N34 in Gieten and roundabout Oelenboom will receive its final layout. The temporary barriers will be removed and replaced with low guardrails. This will create a clearer and tidier appearance and prevent vehicles from cutting in line via the on- and off-ramps.
During the work, the two roundabouts between Rondkamp and the eastern off- and on-ramps will be closed. Traffic will be diverted via Gasselte and the Gieterweg/Gasselterweg. Yellow signs will indicate the detours. Agricultural traffic will follow a separate route via the parallel road towards Gasselte. Cyclists can continue to use their usual route. Traffic controllers will be present during the work.
N34 roadworks in 2026
Several roadworks are planned on the Gieten traffic circle and the N34 in 2026 to improve traffic safety and flow. The installation of the guardrail at Oelenboom is one of these projects. Later this year, an extended bus lane will be added on the north and south sides of the traffic circle, as well as an additional lane (bypass) from the N33 to the N34.
Adjustments will also be made to the N34 itself. Between the Gieten traffic circle and the A28, road markings will be updated and a no-overtaking zone will be introduced. Between Zuidlaren and the junction with the A28 near De Punt, greenstone will be installed along the carriageway, the asphalt surface will be replaced, the green centerline will be widened, and additional rumble strips will be added. These measures will allow traffic, including public transport, to travel more safely and smoothly.
The roadworks on the N34 will be carried out in various phases. The N34 will be partially closed in each phase. By combining work smartly, the inconvenience will be minimized as much as possible. The full schedule of all roadworks is available at provincie.drenthe.nl/n34werkzaamheden.
