Second edition of BuurtBooster Festival & Fondsenplein a great success
On Wednesday, March 25, the second edition of the BuurtBooster Festival & Fondsenplein took place in Roermond. Nearly 300 neighborhood builders, volunteers, and professionals gathered at ‘de Weerstand’ to work together on building stronger and more livable neighborhoods. The Province of Limburg, in collaboration with its partners – Burgerkracht Limburg, Huis voor de Kunsten Limburg, Katalys, Spil in de Wijk, and Vereniging Kleine Kernen Limburg – organized an inspiring program filled with knowledge sharing, networking, and support.
The festival focused entirely on strengthening neighborhood initiatives. During the plenary session, Deputies Theuns and Van Caldenberg shared inspiring examples from across the province.
Deputy Theuns: “Livability is created by people who take responsibility for their neighborhood. The BuurtBooster Festival & Fondsenplein provides a place where knowledge, ideas, and efforts come together. This is how we build strong, social, and future-proof communities in Limburg together.”
Fondsenplein: access to knowledge and funding
An important component was once again the Fondsenplein. Around twenty funds and supporting organizations – including the Oranje Fonds, VSBfonds, LEADER, Katalys, and Buurkracht – were present to advise visitors on funding opportunities and explore the next steps for their initiatives. The Fondsenplein provided ample opportunities to establish new contacts and initiate valuable collaborations. As in previous years, the power of collaboration and knowledge sharing was evident. The energy among attendees was high; networking was in full swing, experiences were shared, and new plans took concrete shape. The first applications for follow-up trajectories have already been submitted.
Deputy Van Caldenberg: “It is inspiring to see so many initiators, funds, and partners come together to strengthen neighborhoods and districts in Limburg. This festival shows how much energy and commitment exists in our province and how collaboration leads to tangible results and exciting new plans.”
Practical workshops
In multiple workshop rounds, practical support was central. Participants worked on writing appealing volunteer job postings, securing the future of their initiatives, budgeting projects, and setting up successful crowdfunding campaigns. There were also sessions to help navigate municipal processes, gain insight into subsidy regulations from the Province of Limburg, and effective storytelling for pitching ideas.
