Festive opening of the Cruquius Bridges on 18 April
The work on the Cruquius Bridges has been completed. Road users, cyclists, pedestrians and water traffic can once again use the bridges. To celebrate this, a festive opening will take place on Saturday, 18 April 2026.
Renovation of the Cruquius Bridges
Over the past few years, extensive work has been carried out to renovate the Cruquius Bridges. The bridge towards Heemstede (1932) has been completely renewed. At the same time, the bridge towards Hoofddorp has been renovated. These works have ensured that the bridges are ready for the future.
Safer and more space for cyclists and pedestrians
The bridge towards Heemstede has been widened. This has created more space for cyclists and pedestrians and improved safety and traffic flow on the N201. The connections for slow traffic have also been improved, such as an adapted pedestrian tunnel and a new cycle underpass on the Haarlemmermeer side.

Festive opening of the Cruquius Bridges
On Saturday, 18 April, there will be plenty to do for young and old at the Cruquius Bridges between 14:30 and 17:00. At 15:00, the bridge will be officially opened in a festive ceremony. Visitors can take a look at an exhibition about the bridges, take a photo in the photobooth with the Cruquius Bridge in the background or participate in old Dutch games. There will also be various food trucks with delicacies. For children, there will be a treasure hunt in the nearby Cruquius Museum and much more to enjoy. The event will take place at the construction site opposite the bridgekeeper's house.
Built sustainably and future-proof
Sustainability was central to the renovation. The new bridge has been built to be energy-neutral, circular and as low-maintenance as possible. Principles of Industrieel, Flexibel en Demontabel (IFD) construction have also been applied. This means that components can be more easily replaced or reused in the future. The bridge has also been designed to require less maintenance. This means fewer works and less disruption to traffic in the future. The experiences gained from this project will also be used by the province in future bridge projects.
Renovation of the Cruquius Bridges
The renovation of the Cruquius Bridges is a collaboration between the Province of Noord-Holland, the municipalities of Heemstede and Haarlemmermeer, the Amsterdam Transport Region and the Hoogheemraadschap of Rijnland. The works were carried out by the contractor consortium Van Hattum en Blankevoort / Hollandia Infra.
