New through-cycle route on Trambaanpad between Spijkenisse and Hellevoetsluis
The cycle path along the old tram line between Spijkenisse and Hellevoetsluis is set to be upgraded. This will make cycling even more attractive. The renovation is scheduled to begin in 2027.
The Trambaanpad is over 12 kilometres long and serves as an important route for commuting, work, and school travel on Voorne-Putten. It will become a so-called ‘through-cycle route’. The work is expected to be completed in 2028.
Smooth cycling ahead
“For cyclists, the path will become more attractive and safer. They will encounter fewer obstacles and will be given priority more often, allowing them to cycle smoothly. This will make it even more appealing to choose the bike for trips between Spijkenisse and Hellevoetsluis,” says councillor Hennie Wiersma-den Dulk of the Hoogheemraadschap van Delfland.
Further development of the cycling network
“We are pleased with the improvements to the Trambaanpad, as it makes cycling on Voorne-Putten more attractive and safer,” says Jeroen van Dijken, member of the Provincial Executive of South Holland (traffic and transport). “South Holland is the province with the most kilometres of through-cycle routes, and I am proud of that. In the coming years, we will continue to expand the network and invest in existing routes.”
Collaborating parties
Municipalities Nissewaard and Voorne aan Zee, the Hoogheemraadschap van Delfland, the Metropolitan Region Rotterdam The Hague, and the Province of South Holland are joining forces for this project. The road authorities responsible for the Trambaanpad are the municipalities of Nissewaard and Voorne aan Zee, along with the Hoogheemraadschap van Delfland. Together, they will further develop the route. The Metropolitan Region Rotterdam The Hague and the Province of South Holland are providing subsidies to realise the through-cycle route.
