Joining forces for an accessible region
Flevoland is growing, and with it, the congestion on our roads, cycle paths, and rail networks. To ensure the region remains smoothly and safely accessible in the future, we signed an important cooperation agreement (SOK) on Wednesday, March 11, during the Intertraffic traffic exhibition at the RAI Amsterdam.
Together with partners such as Rijkswaterstaat, the Municipality of Amsterdam, the Transport Region, and the Province of North Holland, we are pooling our efforts, with NS and ProRail contributing in an advisory capacity. The goal is simple but essential: smooth traffic flow for everyone. Whether you travel by car, bus, train, bicycle, or water.
Cross-provincial collaboration
The growth of our region is impressive: hundreds of thousands of homes and jobs are being added. This means more traffic and greater challenges. By officially joining the Regional Traffic Management Coordination Team as a province, we strengthen our control over traffic in the entire North Holland and Flevoland region.
By coordinating with each other and jointly implementing mobility measures, we work more efficiently and consistently, while keeping communication lines short. Together, we contribute to better informing travelers within and through our regions.
The agreements are initially valid until the end of 2031, with an option to extend until 2036. This way, we are building a solid foundation for the long term.
The four key priorities
- Reducing disruption from roadworks: we better align roadworks and events to minimize delays for travelers.
- Smart digitalization: we continue working to streamline mobility data to manage traffic more intelligently.
- Unified communication: travelers receive clear and consistent information about mobility measures in the region.
- Optimal traffic management: from traffic control centers, we manage all networks to make the best use of existing roads and infrastructure, especially during peak times.
A livable future
With this collaboration, we are taking a major step toward keeping Flevoland and the surrounding region accessible and livable. Whether you are traveling for work, study, or leisure, we are working to ensure you arrive at your destination quickly and safely, now and in the future.
