Flevoland as a Key Region for the Netherlands and Europe
A successful working visit to Flevoland. On Friday, March 20, (new) members of the House of Representatives, Senate, and Members of the European Parliament engaged in discussions with entrepreneurs, administrators, and knowledge institutions during the working visit to Flevoland as a Key Region. With two substantive routes, we demonstrated how Flevoland already contributes today to national and European objectives.
High-tech and innovation
The program began at ASM, a Dutch multinational that develops and produces advanced equipment for the manufacturing of microchips. Deputy Toon van Dijk opened the working visit here, where extensive discussions were held on high-tech development and innovation for the Netherlands and Europe. In the Proeflokaal, Deputy Ellentrees Müller welcomed the participants and focused on the future story of Almere Pampus, with special attention to housing construction, employment, and accessibility.
During the exploration of alternative financing for the IJmeerlijn, the importance of good connections for further growth was emphasized by the municipality of Almere.
Rural area and energy
Simultaneously, the working visit on rural area and energy kicked off at a farm in Swifterbant. Deputy Harold Hofstra took the politicians through the development of future-proof agriculture and innovation, after which entrepreneurs showed the politicians how this works in practice. At McCain in Lelystad, it became clear how major consumers are focusing on sustainability and what policy space is needed for this. The key message: decentralized solutions are essential for progress.
The importance of collaboration
During the joint lunch at the Proeflokaal, stakeholders from Flevoland in education, energy, agriculture, and industry engaged in conversation. King’s Commissioner Arjen Gerritsen emphasized the importance of collaboration, both for the region and for The Hague and Brussels. This was a great moment to share the outcomes and explore follow-up opportunities.
We thank all members of parliament, entrepreneurs, and partners for their involvement and valuable discussions. Flevoland shows what is possible when we work together. On to the next step: accelerating together!
