Two subsidy schemes for the conservation and restoration of forests reopen
In 2026, the province will once again open two subsidy schemes for the conservation and restoration of healthy forests. Forest owners in Brabant, such as land management organisations (TBOs), municipalities and country estates, can apply for subsidies for forest revitalisation and hydrological measures.
Accelerated restoration subsidy scheme for nitrogen-sensitive Natura 2000 areas
You can apply for subsidies for restoration measures in forests within Natura 2000 areas. This is possible until 12 November 2026.
Biodiversity and habitats subsidy scheme; forest revitalisation
This scheme is intended for forests within the Brabant Nature Network (NNB) and forests outside Natura 2000 areas. You can apply for subsidies from 1 April 2026 to 12 November 2026.
What has changed?
Since the last opening, two important changes have been made:
- More tailored approaches for soil improvement on poor sandy soils. Based on a soil survey, you can now determine the dosage, composition and area to be treated yourself. This soil survey must be carried out before applying for the subsidy.
- More types of soil improvers are now permitted. In addition to rock flour, lime and shell grit are now also allowed.
List of wild trees and shrubs
The province of North Brabant wants to better protect wild trees and shrubs. Lists have therefore been drawn up with species that may be planted. In areas with wild trees and shrubs, a restricted list of species applies. In other forests, a broader list applies. Check in advance whether your forest is located in an area with wild trees and shrubs.
