Environmental ordinance allows placement of farm windmills
In addition to the wind projects being implemented to meet the goals set out in the Regional Energy Strategy (RES), companies themselves wish to generate their own energy. The Environmental Ordinance permits the placement of a farm windmill within the construction plots of a business.
Research
In collaboration with other provinces, the provinces of Groningen and Friesland conducted research into the effects of farm windmills on protected species. The study shows that more birds and bats are flying into farm windmills than previously thought.
Before installing a new farm windmill, a preliminary nature survey is mandatory. The survey indicates that negative effects on protected species cannot be ruled out in advance. If this is the case, additional research must be carried out.
The additional research will determine whether your farm windmill will have negative effects on protected species. If this is the case, you must apply for an Environmental Permit for a flora and fauna activity. You can request this permit from us. We will assess whether the required permit can be granted.
