New start for residential neighborhood in Utrecht Overvecht
In Utrecht Overvecht, 300 homes will be built in the Ivoordreef residential neighborhood, on the site where a block of flats was previously demolished. The renewed neighborhood will consist of 159 social rental homes, 74 mid-rent homes, and 74 ground-level owner-occupied homes.
After construction, residents of the neighborhood will have the opportunity to return to their familiar surroundings, while new residents can also settle here.
Transformation of this district
The neighborhood will be designed to minimize car traffic, with homes arranged around a shared, car-free central area featuring plenty of green space and meeting places. Parking will be available at the edge of the district in a multi-storey car park with green facades.
Deputy Rob van Muilekom: “With the subsidy from the Province of Utrecht, we are making the transformation possible into a livable neighborhood with a good mix of homes and appropriate parking facilities. A place where people of all ages can meet and live together comfortably.”
Reuse of materials
During the development of the neighborhood, special attention has been paid to existing qualities and memories from the area. For example, the well-known paddling pool will return in a new form, and the sports field will remain part of the neighborhood. This means we are not just building homes, but also creating a place where residents feel at home and can meet each other.
Sustainability plays an important role in the project. During the demolition of the old block of flats, careful consideration was given to which materials could be reused. For instance, concrete facade panels will be given a second life in the new construction. Greening is also central to the design and layout of the neighborhood, with the guiding principle: green, unless it is absolutely necessary otherwise.
The first homes are expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2028.
